Love your stuff Dael, but DnD is dying. And this new stuff is garbage. But you're grand!

Doing a binge of some older videos, and while the ideas in this video are still embryonic, the overall concept is great. I love running campaigns (or chapters of campaigns) that work on this "series of one-shots within a grander narrative" One little thing that I would suggest to anyone going down this path, is that giving the players that one big decision per session that leads to one of two adventures is terrific... but put the decision at the END of the session. Have the party run through whatever one-shot-like adventure you have planned from last week's decision, and wrap up the session by having them back at camp/home base/wherever, meeting with the people, and present them with the issues that need solving next. When they make their decision of which they're going to tackle, that's when you end the session. That way you're not preparing TWO adventures for every session, one of which you'll run based on their decision. Everything from this video is still perfectly intact, and I honestly love this approach, but that one change in timing makes a world of difference from a prep standpoint. I've been running a long-term campaign that follows this model for a while, where the party gets to choose between two missions sponsored by their patron, then they get the chance to do a little shopping/prep/short downtime, and we end the session with them gathering their packs, mounting horses if they have them, and leaving through the town gate. We pick up next time with the journey, the dungeon or whatever, and maybe that particular adventure takes two or more sessions. Regardless, I always make sure that getting back home, meeting with their patron and debriefing, and then the setup for their big decision happens towards the end of the session. As a little bonus benefit to breaking just BEFORE the start of the next little adventure, it makes it really easy to exit on a high where the players are excited to get back to the table to hit the road and dive into the adventure. It's a natural time for a dramatic pause in the action. Anyway, loved this video. Well worth coming back to.

Nice video over all, saw a few titles I have not heard of yet (thanks). Liked seeing the Iron Kingdoms title (had not heard of it and it looks interesting).

Not saying I have an issue with Pathfinder, but it isn't a one book game. The core has no bestiary. Warhammer FRP is a one book game. Rules Cyclopedia is a one book game. There are also many derivative designs from D&D that are one book games. Basic Role Playing Game and OSRIC are both examples.

Ahhh, that kraken one (which I haven't yet gotten to in the campaign) sounds like a bigger version of my shortest-lived character, who got eaten by a tree. Then managed to climb out... and immediately got picked up by the tree and eaten a second time, killing him. He lasted all of two half-sessions XD

I'd probably go for a more spicy drink than feuerzangenbowle (you pronunciation physically hurt me xD). The fire might make it look dragony, but it doesn't really taste like something I'd associate with dragons. (It is delicious though.) Maybe go with blutwurz. It's also commonly set on fire and it tastes more like something I'd associate with dragons. Also, the name already sounds very fantasy.

Loved the video. Loved the "Social, Political..." confusion. I used that system several years back to populate several cities along a coast that were ruled by a guild of traders/merchants. The watch was an expansion of the marine guards that patrolled the docks and warehouses. It helped to develop distinct areas across the map

Its about investment .. When we become invested in a character everything that happens to them we feel and react accordingly .. Who has watched a movie or TV series and cried when their favourite character died? That is the power of investment. When a character is well created and relatable they feel real and we gain an emotional attachment to them and empathise with what happens to them .. Even moreso in a character we create to role play.. its our creation .. our baby you could say and some part of us is in the character so the investment we have is greater.. we live vicariously through them and what happens to them matters to us .. otherwise we wouldn't care .. they'd be some meaningless npc

I tend to create my own worlds from whole cloth, but I do use a very similar process to fill them out. Grandma (she's actually a great-grandma, with 25 great-grandchildren now) had lunch with mom (herself a grandma with 19 grandchildren) yesterday. I'll email her, as per usual, even though she's less interested in official WoTC publications these days, because she'll probably like watching the creative brainstorming.

Great video, lots of good tips and information. For me evolving as a role-player is what keeps the game getting more and more exciting in all aspects and dimensions.
